Seeing The World From a Cup of Coffee

What is “Coffee”? Yeah sure, these black beverages (sometimes it becomes gray if we mix it with creamer or milk) are very well-known at the whole world because of its deliciousness. Coffee are good-tasted no matter you serve it in cold or hot.

But did you know that every time we enjoy a cup of coffee, by that time, as well, we also grabbing the world phenomenon at our hand. Coffee isn’t only a simply beverage which are just created from nothing at grocery store where we bought it. Coffee were created because someone out there plant it; coffee were created because there are people who blend it; we can drink a cup of coffee because there are people who distribute it and of course we can taste it because there are people who sold it.

Coffees are able to represent the social cooptation at the current modern world order. Coffees are more than enough to represent the whole picture of universal stratification that happen to the global society nowadays. Since the coffee has so many functions, from a delicious beverage to the ability to explain global phenomenon, I decided to write the blog about coffee.

When at the first time we pour a coffee powder, we know that at the beginning those coffee powders are come from coffee bean. Coffee powders aren’t something that invented but it is something that discovered. I mean the coffee beans aren’t manufacture thing which can be created by human from nothing. Coffee beans are naturally created before human exist, until finally people found a fact that coffee beans are able to process as a delicious beverage.

Coffee beans are growing in countries that have a near position to equator line such as Indonesia, Brazil and some of America Latin. Now why don’t you try open your world map and take a look countries that positioned nearby equator line: Are there any industrious country with national income per capita more than 30.000 USD located there? If any, that is only Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (based on World Monetary Fund data) which is, in fact, not a country where coffee tree can grow because of its desert climate.

Precisely, what we can see that most of coffee producer, include Indonesia, are developed country (we also can call in “poor country”) where even the citizen of its country still facing problem to get certainty of food for tomorrow. Every single coffee producer country suffers their own similar problem, for instance: poverty, education, hunger, malnutrition and others. Those problems aren’t only experienced by coffee producer country but also all developed country.

Problem isn’t only happen in the level of nation, but also in the level of coffee farmer itself. To see this phenomenon we don’t need to look at another country, In Indonesia itselves we can see the poor condition of coffee farmers. For instance, the bad condition of poverty and lack of access to capital accumulation that suffered by Gayo coffee farmers whereas they harvest one of the greatest coffee bean in Indonesia and also in the world which are definitely have a high price in the world market.

Those things also suffered by any other coffee farmer around the world such in Kenya, Brazil, Colombia and others. The problem is practically pretty cliché: Low purchase price of coffee beans. It is worsened by global warming phenomenon which are affect weather and climate significantly.

In contrary with what happen in advanced country such as U.S, England, etc. At Starbucks, J.Co, Dunkin Donuts and other restaurant, the price a cup of coffee reaching tens of thousands rupiahs. Moreover, there is one kind of coffee named Kopi Luwak that have a superbly price around 300.000 rupiahs for only one cup!

Especially in global context, unsurprisingly, the biggest importer and also the biggest consumer of coffee are come from advanced country like North America, West Europe, Germany, Italy and others which actually can be categorized as advanced industrious country.

We can found unique phenomenon from story above, social inequality and global stratification. Generally there are two sides which getting involved in this stratification: Advanced Country (Industrious country) and developed country. That both caste having so much different almost in every aspect, especially in a matter that correlated to public welfare such as food and education.

Story above also show to us that developed country has a very significant contribution to the needs of advanced country. But it became a problem when the needs of advanced countries are represented by Business Corporation which is oriented to capital accumulation.

Capital accumulation tendency is obviously very detrimental for developed country that inside the perspective of diplomacy, only has a small potency of bargaining value if compared to advanced country’s interest. Spontaneously, the positions of developed country are being recessive and tend to accept any value that proposed by advanced country. And this condition clearly causing developed country suffers economic fluctuation which drastically affects citizen welfare.

But did we realize this thing? Yeah, we only know that coffee has a great taste when we nicely sit at our favorite cafe, without realizing dark reality behind every cup of coffee. All we know is only the price a cup of coffee at famous café is approximately 30 thousand to 50 thousands rupiahs, whereas the price of coffee beans is only 25 thousands rupiahs/kilogram. It seems that the dark color of coffee represent us the darkness of world condition nowadays, especially the country which produce coffee beans itself. And the bitter taste of coffee shows us the bitterness of coffee farmer’s live.

Perhaps by this simple article people would be more care about stuff that they consume/use. Because basically there are always unimaginable stories behind every stuff around us…and sometime the stories aren’t too beautiful to listen.

Cerita Jalanan Antara Motor dan Mobil

Di Jakarta, motor telah menjadi kambing hitam atas kemacetan yang terjadi tiap harinya. Memang tidak bisa disangkal bahwa jumlah kendaraan roda dua yang begitu banyak telah turut menyumbang pada jumlah volume kendaraan di Jakarta (walaupun data statistik menunjukkan bahwa volume kendaraan roda empat lebih banyak).

Kendaraan roda dua sering dipersalahkan atas sikap tidak disiplin dan seringnya bertindak ugal-ugalan di jalanan. Pengendara motor kerap diidentikkan dengan sikap egois, tidak mau mengalah, suka ngebut dan lain sebagainya. Hal ini dapat dimaklumi mengingat begitu mudahnya mendapat kendaraan bermotor dan utamanya izin mendapatkan sim C yang begitu gampangnya (asal ada uang semuanya bisa). Pendidikan berlalu lintas dikesampingkan, yang berimbas pada kelakuan pengguna jalan raya yang cenderung seenaknya sendiri.

Namun perlu diinsyafi tidak selamanya pengemudi motor selalu menjadi pihak yang salah. Sayangnya pemerintah kita pun telah meng-generalisasi bahwa semua kendaraan beroda dua itu salah dan kendaraan beroda empat (atau lebih) itu selalu benar, sehingga muncul wacana peraturan untuk membatasi akses motor di beberapa jalan protokol di Jakarta. Yang saya sayangkan adalah mengapa hanya motor yang dibatasi? Apakah penyumbang kemacetan di Jakarta hanya disebabkan oleh motor semata sehingga harus meng-anak tirikan motor? Alih-alih hanya melakukan kebijakan pembatas akses jalanan untuk motor, bukankah akan lebih baik jika pemerintah melakukan pembatasan akses untuk semua kendaraan pribadi dengan memprioritaskan penggunaan kendaraan umum seperti bus kota atau Transjakarta? Ah entahlah, saya yang bodoh ini hanya bisa mengira-ngira saja mana yang lebih baik.

Tapi bagi anda yang tiap tahunnya melakukan mudik, terutama bagi anda yang menggunakan mobil pribadi dan melewati pantura sejak tahun 1990 (atau sebelum trend mudik dengan motor menjadi populer pada tahun 2005) maka anda akan menemukan kelakuan pengemudi motor Jakarta pada mobil-mobil pribadi yang mudik. Mereka seakan-akan kesurupan roh pengemudi motor Jakarta: ngebut, ugal-ugalan, suka menyelip-nyelip, tidak mau mengalah, suka ngeblong (istilah yang digunakan untuk kendaraan yang menerobos kemacetan lewat jalur kanan atau kiri) dan lain sebagainya. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan tingginya jumlah kecelakaan dipantura tiap tahunnya, baik itu dalam tol atau luar tol. Nah inilah yang menjadi hal unik, ternyata sikap-sikap tidak disiplin tidak hanya dilakukan oleh pengendara motor tapi juga oleh pengendara mobil.

Kenapa sikap tidak disiplin mobil tidak terlihat di Jakarta? Sebenarnya jawabannya hanya satu, yaitu Kesempatan. Di kota Jakarta Jalanannya relatif kecil, banyak terdapat lampu merah, tikungan dan hal-hal lain yang menyebabkan sebuah mobil harus berhenti atau perlahan. Ini menyebabkan si pengemudi mobil tidak bisa mengebut atau menyelip-nyelip karena memang jalanannya kecil dan padat. Sedangkan bagi motor, jalanan di Jakarta ini cukup luas (bahkan sangat luas) sehingga mereka dengan leluasanya bisa menggeber gas nya hingga angka 100km/jam dan menyelip-nyelip diantara mobil atau bahkan memaksakan masuk ke jalur pedestrian (trotoar).

Sedangkan di jalur pantura, jalan ini memang pada dasarnya diciptakan untuk kendaraan berskala besar seperti bus, truk trailer dan mobil, sehingga relatif lebih mudah bagi mobil untuk melakukan manuver-manuver bombastis yang tidak bisa mereka lakukan di jalanan Jakarta, contohnya ya seperti yang telah saya tuliskan pada 2 paragraph di atas. Dengan kondisi jalanan yang memang diciptakan untuk kendaraan besar, mobil-mobil pribadi di pantura menjadi seperti motor di jakarta walaupun memang tidak seekstrim motor karena pada dasarnya mengendarai mobil lebih susah ketimbang mengendarai motor.

Jadi masihkah kita menumpahkan kemacetan kota Jakarta ini semata hanya kepada para pengemudi motor? Miskinnya tingkat kedisiplinan terbukti tidak hanya milik pengendara motor tapi juga milik semua pengguna jalan raya, mulai dari pengendara kendaraan umum bahkan hingga ke pejalan kakinya. Berhentilah menyalahkan satu pihak saja atas suatu masalah, karena masalah lalu lintas tidak sesederhana membalikkan telapak tangan…

Who is the real Terrorist?

We still can remember clearly at 11 Sept 2001, the twin tower world trade center in New York was hit by commercial jet plane. This tragedy shocking many people in the world, especially American citizen. Approximately six thousand people has died, most of them of course are American. Because of this incident, American government, with no doubt and with haste declares war to Afghanistan, which is accused as a country that supports terrorist organization AL-Qaeda. American President: George Walker Bush denotes simple statement “you’re either with us or you against us”. And the result is easy to predict, nation who reject  to cooperate with U.S government like North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Venezuela are accused as "Terrorist Supporter" country.

A few years later after U.S declaration of war to Afghanistan and Iraq, about Six hundred Thousands Iraqi civilian died and two thousands people died during US invasion to Afghanistan..and yet, it still counting until now. And thousands young soldier from Germany, U.S, U.K and other countries that participate in Iraqi & Afghanistan war has died in vain and bring only pain and suffer for their family.

We may asking to ourselves after read the text above "Who is the real terrorist?" If we defining Terrorist as person/group who brings the terror to public, we may say that Al-Qaeda or something stuff like that as U.S government always told bring far less terror than what U.S government did. Al-Qaeda (or else) "only" kill 6000 people in New York, but U.S government kills almost a million citizens in Afghanistan and Iraq. Al-Qaeda bring only 500 million people in the feeling of anxiousness, but U.S bring more than 2 billion people in the feeling of afraid being attacked by U.S army only because they have different perspective of view from U.S Government! 

Funny isn't when we always worried about Al-Qaeda or Jamaah Islamiah to bomb us while we drive at public street meanwhile the institution who we trust to protect us commence a mass murderer at other side of the world. Funny when we imagine while we think they're protect us and act like a good nice friend but actually they suck and stabbed us from our back.

So if I ask you again the question? "Who is the real terrorist?" what would be your answer?

Begitupun halnya dengan isu teroris dalam negeri yang begitu heboh diceritakan oleh beberapa media massa. Diceritakan disana teroris adalah orang-orang bertopeng yang dilengkapi dengan senapan serbu rifle M-16 & Ak-47, dan biasanya juga mereka (seperti yang ada di film-film Holywood) adalah sosok yang hebat dalam penyamaran dan ahli dalam perakitan bom. Merekapun bekerja dalam invisible Organization yang begitu rapih dan tersembunyi, persis seperti cerita serial Detective Conan.

Yang menjadi masalah adalah sosok teroris ala Holywood ini terlalu banyak menarik perhatian publik dari akar segala masalah di Indonesia (termasuk terorisme), yaitu Korupsi. Ya benar, tidak dapat disangkal bahwa penghancur negara nomor satu di republik ini adalah para koruptor-koruptor yang berkeliaran dengan leluasanya.

 Lalu apa hubungan Koruptor dengan Teroris? Jelas, tanpa ada koruptor maka potensi terjadinya tindak terorisme sangat kecil karena pada dasarnya terorisme muncul karena hal-hal berikut:

1.Kurangnya akses terhadap pendidikan.
2.Kemiskinan
3.Terjadinya kesenjangan sosial yang pada akhirnya berujung pada kecemburuan sosial.
4.Kurangnya perhatian/penghargaan atas aktualisasi diri individu, sehingga mengakibatkan individu terjurumus dalam aktualisasi yang "negatif".

Keempat hal tersebut memang sangat kurang di Indonesia dan uniknya, keempat hal tersebut saling berkaitan satu sama lain. Seperti kita lihat sendiri berapa puluh juta anak muda kita yang tidak mengenyam pendidikan sesuai standar. Pendidikan yang tidak layak mengakibatkan potensi diri yang tidak berkembang dan akhirnya membawa sang individu menjadi seorang yang tidak kompetitif atau tidak berkualitas. Kualitas rendah sang individu tersebut mengakibatkan dia tidak mampu mencapai sumber-sumber daya ekonomi yang sebenarnya menjadi kebutuhan mendasar dia, dimana hal tersebut membuat sang individu ini jatuh miskin. Kemiskinan yang tidak merata mengakibatkan adanya kecemburuan sosial dari si miskin terhadap si kaya, atau kalau boleh kita pinjam istilah dalam buku Manifesto Komunis-nya si Karl Marx: Ada kecemburuan kaum proletariat terhadap kaum kapitalis.

Si miskin pun, kalaupun dia mempunyai kemampuan/keahlian tertentu biasanya jarang diperhatikan oleh instansi yang mempunyai otoritas. Hal ini tentu menimbulkan keputusasaan bagi si miskin karena tidak mampu untuk keluar dari "lingkaran setan" kemiskinan dan alienasi terhadap aktualisasi dirinya. Ini merupakan ramuan yang sangat mujarab jika anda berniat menciptakan penjahat hebat, termasuk di dalamnya adalah teroris dan akhirnya terciptalah teroris-teroris baru yang berbahaya. Padahal kalau dilihat awalnya mereka hanya kekurangan empat hal yang notabenenya harus disediakan oleh pemerintah republik ini, namun korupsi telah menghapus semuanya..menjadikannya hanya sekedar tulisan dalam undang-undang.

Penjelasan di atas cukup menerangkan kenapa Korupsi berkaitan erat dengan Terorisme. Jadi saya berkesimpulan disini bahwa teroris yang sebenarnya adalah para koruptor. Korupter merupakan "bapak" terorisme yang sangat berbahaya karena selain memiliki akses terhadap  jalannya pemerintahan yang sedemikian luas tapi juga mempunyai kemampuan untuk "menghilangkan" dirinya, tentunya dengan bantuan dari berbagai pihak, salah satunya yang paling signifikan adalah bantuan media.

Definisi saya mengenai koruptor disini bukan hanya mereka yang "mencuri" uang rakyat dalam jumlah milyaran seperti jagoan kita Gayus Tambunan, tapi mereka yang turut menikmati uang "remang-remang" yang jumlahnya hanya puluhan atau ratusan ribu. Bahkan tanpa kita sadari banyak saudara, teman atau bahkan orang tua kita yang telah berpartisipasi secara aktif dalam tindak terorisme karena ya itu tadi, mereka turut memberikan andil terhadap reduksi kesejahteraan bangsa ini dengan mengambil uang yang tidak jelas sumbernya itu.

 Jadi daripada kita berteriak-teriak basmi terorisme, bahkan hingga ada group Facebook mengenai perlawanan terhadap tindakan terorisme pasca pengeboman di J.W Marriot, akan jauh lebih efektif bila kita mengkonsentrasikan pada pembasmian para koruptor. Seperti yang dilakukan oleh kelompok SPEAK (Suara Pemuda Anti Korupsi), ICW atau lembaga-lembaga non-pemerintahan lain yang mengkonsentrasikan dirinya pada isu korupsi. Ini tentu jauh lebih bermanfaat karena alih-alih hanya demonstrasi menentang teroris namun melupakan bapak atau biang terorisme itu sendiri, yaitu korupsi.

Mudah-mudahan tulisan sederhana ini bisa menyadarkan kita bahwa isu terorisme jauh lebih luas, lebih tersembunyi dan penuh konspirasi. Terorisme tidak sesederhana menangkap maling ayam atau maling mobil, karena pada isu terorisme selalu menyembunyikan agenda-agenda politik.

My Brand New Blog at Blogspot

Pfiuw, after several months being so doubtful about the necessity of creating blog at blogspot finally I decide to create one here :) Before this blog, I have the earlier blog at http://venomaxus.wordpress.com which are the first time blog I've ever created as well as the first time I can express my personal analysis and opinion about various object, especially social and political issue without being worried.



Actually maybe in this blogspot's blog not far too different with that my blog at wordpress, but I made this blog slightly more "lighter" and "easier" to understand for younger reader (as the main purpose I create blog in blogspot). I assumed that most of the reader and blog surfer in wordpress are professional person which are in general they have older age, so there are only a small chance that the youth generation would read my blog at wordpress.

Then lot of my friend suggest me to create account and start blogging in blogspot. At the beginning I don't feel interested at all to re-write some of my analysis and opinion about certain issue. But as time goes by, I realize comprehensively that if I have two blog with different kind of reader it would be better because I can reach the reader from any age and class.

My ultimate problem, as I can say, it seems that I have a little problem to write about serious matter in teenagers language style. Hopefully this blog won't be a dull for youngster since the issue which are I write here will always found at their live wherever and whenever they are.

So please enjoy my blog, and believe me or not, this blog will be useful somehow... cheers!
